St. Stephen’s in-the-Field Outreach

Reaching out into our community to care for those in need.

Community Garden
Our church campus has a number of garden beds being used by nearby residents to grow their own vegetables. We have garden spaces available! Email our office administrator at office@ssitf.org to learn more and check-out our page on the many programs involving our gardens.

Outreach to Unhoused Neighbors

Our parishioners serve on San José Community Advisory Committees for local low-income housing benefitting homeless people, help build libraries for interim emergency housing developments, volunteer at Santa Maria Urban Ministry, donate Mana Bags, and provide direct mutual aid to our unhoused neighbors. Canterbury Bridge Episcopal Ministries at San Jose State University
The congregation at St. Stephen’s helps support the Rev. Deacon Kathey Crowe by making fleece blankets for homeless students, providing gift cards for student food and supply needs and by donating personal hygiene bags. To reach Rev. Dcn. Santa Maria Urban Ministries (SMUM)
Santa Maria has provided emergency food and clothes to impoverished families since 1983. St. Stephen’s assists with packing food boxes, and donating clothes and gift cards to be used as gifts at Christmas. SMUM is located at 778 South Almaden Ave, San Jose, CA 95110. Calero High School Job Coaching for Their Adult Transition Program
St. Stephen’s partners with job coaches from Calero High as they assist adults from 18-22. Students learn independent living skills for work and personal experience. Email our office administrator at office@ssitf.org to learn more.

St. Julie’s Food Pantry
St. Stephen’s collaborates with St. Julie’s by donating food to be distributed in our community. For more information, please email St. Julie’s at stjulies@dsj.org.

Prayer Shawls
The women in our congregation knit prayer shawls that are blessed before they are given to anyone who needs to feel God’s love and warmth around them. Contact Rev. Karen Cuffie if you have this need at office@ssitf.org.

South Sudanese Youth Opportunities
The St. Stephen’s community helps support 11 South Sudanese elementary students. Tuition for school is provided along with funding for books and vaccinations. To learn more or donate, email our office administrator at office@ssitf.org.

Facility Use
We offer our building use for 3 AA meetings a week, piano recitals, and special lecture series. For more information or to schedule your event, email our office administrator at office@ssitf.org.
